Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans

There are 10 different Medicare Supplement plans available in most states. Some of the plans we have listed here may not be available to everyone. 

Here are all the Medigap plans and what they cover.

Medigap Plan A

Medicare Supplement Plan A pays the 20% copay for outpatient medical care Medicare leaves you with. 

It also covers the first three pints of blood if you need a transfusion. 

Medigap Plan B

Medicare Supplement Plan B  pays the 20% copay for outpatient medical care Medicare expects you to pay. 

It also covers the first three pints of blood for a transfusion and Medicare Part A’s deductible.

Medigap Plan C

Medicare Supplement Plan C pays for all of your Medicare coinsurance and copayments, deductibles, the first three pints of blood of a transfusion, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and 80% of a foreign travel emergency. 

However, those who turned 65 after January 1, 2020, are not allowed to purchase this plan because of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. 

Medigap Plan D

Plan D covers the 20% copay for outpatient medical care Medicare would typically pass on to you. 

It also covers the first three pints of blood for a transfusion, hospice care, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, Medicare Part A’s deductible, and 80% of a foreign travel emergency.

Medigap Plan F

Medicare Supplement Plan F offers the most comprehensive coverage out of all the supplements. 

Even so, because of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, those who turned 65 after January 1, 2020, cannot purchase the plan because it covers Medicare Part B’s deductible. 

If you are still eligible to purchase this plan, it covers 100% of all of your copay/coinsurance and deductibles associated with Medicare as well as Part B excess charges. It also covers 80% of a foreign travel emergency.

Medigap Plan G

Plan G covers 100% of the copays/coinsurance, deductibles, and excess charges other than Part B’s deductible. It also pays 80% of a foreign travel emergency.

Medicare Supplement Plan G is the most comprehensive coverage out of all the supplements for those who turned 65 after January 1, 2020 because of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015.

Medigap Plan K

Medicare Supplement Plan K pays your Medicare Part A coinsurance in full, 50% of your Part B coinsurance, first three pints of blood in a transfusion, hospice care coinsurance, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and the deductible for Medicare Part A. 

Medigap Plan L

Medicare Supplement Plan L covers 100% of your Medicare Part A coinsurance, 75% of your Part B coinsurance, first three pints of blood in a transfusion, your hospice care coinsurance, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and Medicare Part A’s deductible. It also features an annual out-of-pocket maximum limit of $2,940 in 2020.

Medigap Plan M

Medicare Supplement Plan M pays 100% of all of Medicare Parts A and B’s coinsurance requirements. 

It also covers half of your Part A deductible and 80% of a foreign travel emergency.

Medigap Plan N

Medicare Supplement Plan N pays 100% of all of your Part A and B coinsurance and your Part A deductible. Additionally, it covers 80% of a foreign travel emergency.

With Plan N, you’ll pay $20 copay for doctor’s office visits and up to a $50 copay for emergency room visits if you aren’t admitted as an inpatient.
